Why geyser service is important

With the winter season approaching, the basic necessity in an urban dwelling environment is access to a hot water supply. As October approaches, it’s a good idea to get our geysers back into operation with timely geyser service.

Most of us are unaware of geyser servicing and maintenance. As a preventive time maintenance measure, we usually wait for it to give up working before we pay attention to it. A well-serviced geyser can lead to a longer usable life of the geyser. Timely geyser servicing also makes a geyser more efficient. More efficiency directly translates into a reasonable monetary saving in the bills over the season.

Importance of geyser service

Both a conventional and an instant geyser need service. Since most geysers are fixed outside, they are exposed to the elements over varying seasons. It leads to visual deterioration and also problematic exposed parts. Depending on the hardness of the water supply of the area, there is calcification on the internals while heating the water. Calcification refers to the calcium carbonate deposits on the internal metal surface of the casing that comes into contact with water while heating it. As the water heats up, it leaves behind salts and minerals on the surface. With time, this process deposits a layer of calcium carbonate on the metal. As a result, this deposition starts to act as an insulator between the water and the heated metal surface. Hence, there is a decrease in the efficiency of the geyser consistently over time.

One of the most important components that must never be ignored is a pressure release valve for a conventional geyser. Since conventional geyser stores a large amount of water so, it produces steam when heats up. A closed system causes an increase in pressure so this pressure is released through a safety pressure valve. If this valve becomes out of action then increased pressure will ultimately open the welded joints of the casing. This can cause a leak in the geyser, resulting in an expensive repair.

Process of geyser service

Not all service providers offer a geyser service with decalcification. The process involves the use of a chemical inside the storage/heating tank of a conventional geyser. The next step is the mechanical agitation of the calcium deposit. The process ends with a pressure wash and draining of the chemical and the calcium deposit-ridden water. In the case of an instant geyser, the decalcification chemical runs through the heater’s copper pipes in a loop for a specific time to remove the deposits. This process can significantly reduce the energy used to reach the desired water temperature.

After the decalcification, for the cleaning of other components of the geyser, an antirust chemical or a water dispersant chemical to beneficial to ease its operation.
