Termite Treatment

By September 25, 2022No Comments

Termite infestation is a scary thought for all of us. Termites are usually harmless to human health but can cause significant loss of property and investment in our premises. After detecting a termite problem, try to address it immediately. Within days, the infestation can spread across the space exponentially. It can lead to irreparable damage to wooden fixtures and furniture. It is a standard practice to get a thorough termite treatment during the construction phase. This treatment can be effective from 5 to 10 years depending on different factors. Even after the effective period, termite infestation will not occur unless triggered by an external cause.

What causes termites?

Termites are underground dwelling entities. These are often set loose by construction activity in a vicinity that requires excavation of the site. The deeper the excavation, the more likely will be a termite attack in the vicinity. Sometimes, there is a high-rise residential or commercial building activity in an area. As a result, it is likely that the area will see a termite attack. In such cases, if the time window of your construction stage has lapsed, it’s always better to get a preventive termite treatment for your premises.

Another source of termites into your space is by bringing in an infested piece of furniture or old packaging like wooden crate pallets, etc. In this case, the source of termites is internal and must be treated immediately upon detection. At the earlier stages of termite infestation, you can treat it by limiting the use of termite chemicals and spraying topically on the infested furniture. Drilling and injecting pesticide into the affected wooden fixtures is also an option. With this treatment, keen observation is necessary after the treatment. It is to observe any items or places that start showing infestation. Try to treat them immediately.

Sometimes spaces and buildings are left unattended after an infestation for a longer duration. It can then become seriously infested by termite colonies. This lead to damage wooden fixtures. Hence, there will be a need for large-scale termite treatment. This process can require a series of deep holes using drilling along with the walls of the structure to reach the ground under the building. Through these holes, large quantities of pesticides are pumped to treat the earth below the structure of the building. It’s an expensive treatment that requires large amounts of pesticide.

Never ignore a Termite Infestation

A preventive post-construction termite treatment will be less invasive as compared to a reactive treatment after the infestation. Preventive treatment can entail an outdoor use of the pesticide to form a protective barrier to repel a possible termite attack. This will prevent any loss/damage and also the more invasive use of pesticides. Post-treatment repair costs for drilling through tile/marble flooring of the house. Sometimes, the replacement of wooden fixtures is the only choice. To avoid this cost, it is always advisable to not ignore the first appearance of termites.
