Ac repair tips for common ac problems

An air conditioner is a system with multiple components and unexpected major or minor problems can occur without any warning. There are some issues that we can solve on our own but then there come some major problems that must be checked and solved by an expert ac technician. From ac service to ac repair, we need to take care of little things to avoid any big damage. It is important to diagnose problem systematically for an effective solution. Here we have mentioned some common issues and ac repair tips for you!

Limited Cooling

If you experience that ac is turning on but there is limited cooling then either the ac filters or evaporator are clogged. An important task that you can do at home is to regularly clean ac dust filters after every 10-15 days. If evaporator coils are clogged then they will be fixed by an ac service. Dirty/choked filters often need more energy to operate, resulting in increased electricity bills, and ineffective cooling. It can result in a reduced amount of airflow causing the ac compressor to run for a longer time and ultimately diminish the ac efficiency.

Ac not powering up

If you notice that ac is not turning on at all then either there is an issue in the main power supply/circuit breaker, or it has an internal electric problem. If the power supply/circuit break is not the culprit then it could possibly be a faulty PCB kit. These PCB kits are repairable but in some cases need to be replaced. Depending on the brand of your ac, old PCB kits are also available in the market.

Ac powering up but no cooling

If the ac is turning on but there is no cooling at all then it could be a leak in the  evaporator or condenser of ac. This can be verified by a gas pressure check that can be performed by an ac technician. If the gas pressure is OK then ac technician will check the compressor’s functioning. The compressor will not work either due to a faulty capacitor, which is a relatively cheaper solution, or it would need the compressor to be replaced. Second-hand compressors are also available in markets. So, invest smartly according to the life of your ac. If ac is old then it is better to purchase an old compressor.

Accelerated corrosion

If your residence or workplace is near an open sewerage area, then ac is likely to fail with high corrosion. Fumes from the open sewerage get inside the ac and the evaporator corrodes earlier than its normal lifetime. It is recommended to apply a coat of varnish on the coils of the evaporator when the ac is installed for better corrosion protection. A leaking evaporator/condenser can be repaired but because of corrosion, repaired components have a tendency of leaking again from the next weak point in the system.

AC units that require frequent repairs could signal that it’s time for a replacement. The best decision is the smartest financial investment depending on how old your ac is. The durability and quality of appliances vary from company to company. But taking care and timely problem detection can save money in the longer run.
